National Day of Remembrance

In 2007 the U.S. Congress designated September 25 of each year to be the National Day of Remembrance of Murder Victims.

This designation was the result of the National Office of Parents of Murdered Children lobbying that the death date of their founder’s daughter be so recognized as the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims nationwide.

Over the last few years, JHV has held a remembrance event at the beach remembering our lost loved ones.  The grand finale is a luminary lighting; the picture on our home page is from just such a display.

This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2018.  It will be a 5K run/walk fundraiser starting at 1 p.m. at Rosie’s Dog Park in Long Beach, CA.  We plan to have approximately twenty five tents; half will be resource booths and the other half will be game/food booths. This will be a family fun day at the beach; you can dress your dogs, kiddos and yourself up in remembrance of your loved one and walk a pre-designated 5K route.  There will be registration numbers and prizes to those finishing and participating in the race. Registration for the race is $25 until September 12th, after that it goes up to $35.

If you are a non-profit charity serving victims, we would love to have you participate with us.  Let us know of your interest as soon as possible by contacting Cynthia Bejar, cbn1962@yahoo.com.
